First, we stamped images onto burlap. It's better to paint the stamp than to dip it in paint. You're less likely to get paint around the edges of the stamp.
We added detail with markers, if we wanted to. Dominic added shadow to his lizard.
We then did stitching to add texture to the pieces.
I taught them how to do a straight stitch and a backstitch. They chose what would work best with their design ideas.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of this one. It was really cute. He formed quite the attachment to it, and wanted to keep it. My mom didn't get this one. J packed it in his suitcase as soon as he was done with it. I consider that a success, too.
What you'll need for this project:
Burlap
Stamps
Acrylic paint
Yarn
Blunt needles
Markers
